I’ve had this dark horse theory popping around in my head. I’ve verbalized it to my friends and family, but don’t think I’ve ever written it out. So I thought I should pen it out for my own sake; to purge these thoughts and see if it can be a real idea - really.
I could just be a snob and feeling quite superior to republicans right now, but it seems like the republican party wants to lose this election. How could it be that they select the one candidate that most true republicans hated from the gate. Ann Coulter actually said that she’d campaign for Hillary Clinton if John McCain won the primary. Well, of course, she didn’t. But that isn’t the point. Rush Limbaugh says that John McCain isn’t a maverick, but is just playing the patriot card. True republicans don’t like John McCain. They don’t like democrats more, but they just don’t like John McCain.
So here is my theory. Republicans put out the worst chance and worst republican that they could muster. They didn’t want to waste a future contender on this thrown bout. Further, they ensured loss by selecting the worst possible vice presidential candidate that they could and left her vetting process unfinished. McCain switches his campaign message daily so that nothing has resonance. McCain picks the most ridiculous lines of attacks. He has some of the same campaign management and utilizes the same tactics that George Bush used to get elected. But here is the kicker in my theory; John McCain doesn’t know he is a patsy. He’d never go for it. But he is so belligerent and desperate to win, that he is an easy mark - he is blinded by victory.
I started thinking about this during the primaries. I thought that the GOP at first were convinced they were going to lose because of how badly George Bush sucks at what he does, but also because they didn’t know how to fix the giant mess that they created during their reign. But this thinking became urgent when the economy took a very bad turn. Whether or not that turn was exacerbated by the final withdrawals of the administration is not clear, but the economy sucks so bad now, I can’t believe anyone wants to take charge over it.
I think that once the economy became unstable, John McCain was selected to be the struggling loser of the election. He gets calculated bad advice from GOP political surgeons. He’d fight what seemed to be a series of bad luck events. It would be a close race, but a loss. John McCain would be a casualty for his country yet one more time.
I am not diminishing Barack Obama at all. I think that he was an unknown factor and probably challenges the restraint of the GOP. But they are such soldiers that they are able to hold back for the sake of their party’s future. They may even sit back at times and enjoy the game that Barack is putting out there.
That’s my crazy ass dark horse theory about this election. I’d love to hear your comments.

[…] My dark horse theory of a defeated GOP seems naive and a gross underestimate of this fascist like regime of assholes. Some of the dittoheads I know are already disseminating parts of the plan like the good sheep they are. I’ve already had plans for Election day and the day following canceled because I have been told that riots will ensue if Barack Obama doesn’t win the presidency. They may be mother fucking right. […]

I think it is possible you are right. The GOP knows the economy is crashing, we most likely have to eventually raise taxes to deal with the deficits, they know we can’t stay in Iraq forever, but they don’t have the guts to deal with it. So, they let a Democrat do it, and can then blame them for raising taxes and “losing” the war, even though they were left with pretty much no other options.
